This 24 x 36 inch poster was created in Adobe Illustrator for a class project which included conducting research on a scientific issue, visually communicating the most important aspects of the topic, and making a complex subject approachable to a wider audience. This project was done over a span of three weeks.
Process 1: I started by researching the coral reefs. Asking questions such as; what is coral? Why are they endangered? What role do they play in the environment? How can people help preserve coral reefs? I noted what I found in my notebook, categorizing research and grouping questions and material.
Process 2: After creating a small layout of my information design, I wrote my findings, in order to understand how much information I had and how much space I would have for illustrations, charts and pull-quotes.
Process 3: I then created a 24x36 layout of the poster using sticky notes to place information in a reader friendly layout. I rearranged the sticky notes until the information flowed in a logical way.
Process 4: I then created illustrations in Adobe Illustrator to emphasize the subject and environment and create a visually and educationally engaging experience.
